Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has found himself at the center of a legal dispute over ticket sales for his highly anticipated Dil-Luminati India Tour, set to begin on October 26, 2024, in Delhi. A law student from Delhi, Riddhima Kapoor, has issued a legal notice accusing Dosanjh and his event organizers of unfair trade practices, sparking widespread debate about ticket sales transparency.
Allegations of Ticket Manipulation and Scalping
The controversy began when tickets for the Dil-Luminati concert went on sale on September 12, 2024. Fans were informed that ticket bookings would open at 1 PM, but Kapoor claims that tickets were made available a minute earlier at 12:59 PM, leading to an almost instant sellout. Despite her efforts to secure tickets with a special HDFC credit card for early access, Kapoor was unable to purchase any. She alleges that this discrepancy in timing allowed for a surge of bookings within seconds, raising suspicions of price manipulation and ticket hoarding.
In her legal notice, Kapoor accused the organizers, including Zomato, HDFC Bank, and Saregama Pvt. Ltd., of inflating demand and reselling tickets at higher prices. She argued that these practices violated the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and were unfair to fans like her who missed out on tickets.
Growing Concern Among Fans
As excitement builds for the Dil-Luminati tour, which will cover multiple cities including Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Bangalore, many fans are now concerned about the fairness of the ticket sales process. While Diljit Dosanjh has not yet publicly responded to the allegations, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about ticket scalping and consumer rights in the entertainment industry.
The legal notice has also prompted some fans to call for greater transparency in ticket distribution, especially for high-demand events like Dosanjh’s concerts. It remains to be seen how the organizers and Diljit will address these accusations, but the issue underscores the need for fair access to popular events.
